The Board of Selectmen and the Park and Recreation Commission have undertaken a study on the possibility of a recreation path being created on an unused rail right-of-way in Needham. Starting near Chestnut Street and the Junction station, the path would travel to the Charles River and the border with Dover.
A study of the bridge is underway, and if possible, the trail would cross over the bridge and the Charles River and pass through Dover and into Medfield for a total of seven miles. The Bay Colony Rail Trail Association and a large group of Needham volunteers has done the majority of the research for this project.
