The Needham Free Public Library was awarded a Library Services Technology Act Grant from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners which was used to create a new STEAM Powered Creation Station inside the Children’s Craft Room. The Creation Station provides children with a space to tinker, play and learn in an open-ended environment. Children can explore robotics, computer coding, engineering and electricity using a variety of items including the ones listed below:
A digital microscope is connected to a laptop and color printer so children can print and create digital art out of microscopic images. In addition to the science materials, traditional art and craft supplies are available, so a user may combine and create in whatever way their curiosity and imagination takes them.
The Library Services and Technology Act is the only federal program exclusively for libraries. It is administered on the federal level by the Institute of Museum and Library services and in the Commonwealth by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
