Burning Season is here!

The 2024 "open burning season" runs from January 15 through May 1.  

Permits are available for purchase at the Needham Fire Department for $10.

Burning must take place:

1. At a location greater than 75 feet from any dwelling

2. Between 10:00AM and 4:00PM

Burning is allowed for the following materials, with a permit:

Brush, cane, driftwood, and forestry debris from other than commercial or industrial land clearing operations. • Agricultural materials such as fruit tree and bush prunings, raspberry stalks, and infected bee hives for disease control. • Trees and brush resulting from agricultural land clearing. • Fungus infected elm wood, if no other acceptable means of disposal is available. 

Burning the following materials is prohibited:

Grass, hay, leaves, stumps, and tires. Construction material and debris

You must stay at the burning site with a charged hose at all times.

Please call NFD at 781-444-0142 for permission to burn.  

Burning can only take place on days the air quality is good to ensure that smoke will be well dispersed.
