Statement from Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick:
At the Special Election held yesterday, Needham voters repealed the Multi-family Overlay District zoning adopted at the October 21, 2024 Special Town Meeting. We are waiting for the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (EOHLC) to confirm the Town’s understanding that the emergency regulations released yesterday extend the deadline for compliance with the MBTA Communities Act until July 14, 2025. With
the EOHLC’s confirmation, the Town Manager will recommend a timeline to the Select Board and Planning Board to bring compliant zoning back to Town Meeting.
6:50 PM UPDATE:
The Town has received confirmation from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities that Needham’s deadline to adopt zoning compliant with the MBTA Communities Act has been extended. The Town must submit an action plan by February 13, 2025 and a district compliance application, with approved zoning, by July 14, 2025. The Town Manager will recommend that the Select Board and Planning Board advance zoning to the May 2025 Annual Town Meeting.
