[ARCHIVED] Get Ready for Needham's 4th of July Celebrations

Excitement is building for Needham's 4th of July celebrations! The festivities, organized by the Needham Exchange Club, will kick off on Thursday, July 3rd at Memorial Field at 5:30 pm with a food tent, pony rides and face painting for children, a pie eating contest, a concert featuring the band Reminisants, followed by fireworks at dusk.  A reminder that no alcohol or dogs are permitted at Memorial Park. Needham Police will be on site throughout the evening to enforce these bylaws to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all event attendees.

The celebrations continue Friday, July 4th with the Charles River YMCA’s 5K Road Race at 8:30 am and the parade at 9 am. Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick, who is retiring after 35 years of service to the Town, will serve as the parade’s grand marshal.

There are a number of planned road closures surrounding these events so please be aware and allow for extra time traveling around town on Thursday and Friday.

Thursday, July 3:

Parking restrictions in place in the area of the High School, primarily on Highland Avenue/Webster Street and the adjacent side streets between Great Plain Avenue to West Street.

The following road closures will begin at 5 pm:

  • Rosemary St. (from Webster St. to Highland Ave.)
  • Kingsbury St. @ Webster St
  • Fair Oaks Pkwy. (from Kingsbury St. to May St.)
  • Warren St. (from Kingsbury St. to May St.)
  • Pickering St. (from Kingsbury St to May St.)
  • Rosemary St. at Hillside Ave. (no traffic up Rosemary St.)
  • Highland Ave. at Carey Rd. (DNE Carey)
  • Webster St. at Carey Rd. (DNE Carey)
  • Highland Ave. at Oakland Ave. (DNE Oakland)

Friday, July 4

The following road closures will begin at 8 am and end between 10:30 - 11 am:

  • Needham Center: Great Plain Ave. between Nehoiden St. and Warren St.; Chapel St., Highland Ave. from Great Plain Ave. to Webster St. at Fire Station 2.
  • Webster St. from Great Plain Ave. to Highland Ave.
  • Highland Ave. from Webster St. to Great Plain Ave.
