An Iron Curtain descended across Eastern Europe while a Bamboo Curtain sealed off the people of China. A Red Scare swept across America. “Better dead than Red” became the watchword of the times. McCarthyism, HUAC, the Rosenberg trial, Sputnik and much more dominated the nation’s headlines. Raising A Reader’s mission is to engage caregivers in a routine of book sharing with their children from birth through age eight to foster healthy brain development, healthy relationships, a love of reading, and the literacy skills critical for school success. Participants will enjoy a storytime together. Adults will learn some early literacy practices they can use at home with their child. Families check out a red bag of paperback books to read at home together and exchange it for a new bag of books each week. *Registration is required for this eight week session, running from April 26 - June 14. New Spider-Man Miles Morales must walk the balance between his personal high school and family life and his life as a superhero. While being Spider-Man, he becomes familiar with the Spider-Verse, where there are endless variations on Spider-Man. One of the Spider-Man variations living inside the Spider-Verse is Spider-Man, Peter Parker, who guides Miles in his journey as the new Spider-Man and introduces him to the multitude of other Spider-Men, including Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham. All of the various Spider-Men will have to band together when villains threaten the safety of the Spider-Verse and the world itself. Sponsored by the Needham Free Public Library.
